The Hamster Baskets Dog-Pods - every one made to order.
Rigid 2 inch square steel mesh panels are cut, and welded into shape, then plastic coated, and locked together with plastic coated spring steel spirals.
Light weight yet strong - The average cage weighs
only 12 kilos (28 lbs).
To our knowledge no dog has escaped, but the dog-pod has
to be easily lifted in and out as the spare wheel is usually beneath it.
Fully opening back door - The door of the dog-pod, with a rigid strengthener at the base to prevent bending, is hinged to match the vehicle. If the tailgate is hinged at the top, a hook is provided to hitch the dog-pod door to the lifted tailgate when open. If the tailgate is side-hinged, the door will likewise be side-hinged, to be two thirds of the width of the dog-pod.
Two holes in the door - These 4 inch square hand holes enable the lead to be put on. Two holes allow both hands to be used. The lead can then be passed out through the gap under the door. The dog is thus under control before opening the door. The holes also allow hand access without having to open the door.
Slam catches on door - These are located either side at the base of the door. Just drop the door and it latches firmly. It opens from the outside with finger and thumb.
Lockable without a padlock - A door spacer is provided free to hold the tailgate open about 6 inches for ventilation. When the car is locked the door is locked in this position, it can only be undone by unlocking and opening the door as normal.
Escape door at the back of the rear seats - If the rear door is damaged in an accident or it cannot be opened, fold down the rear seats and slide the two white spirals. This will open a door (inwards and outwards) in the mesh behind the seat to allow the dog to get out.
Soft Furnishings - As the floor of the cage is mesh, you should provide a piece of sturdy carpet or rubber mat for your dog's comfort (to match your dog's preferences or colour scheme). See last paragraph of useful tips.

This dog-pod was made for a Nissan X Trail with ALL the fittings:- * Double Doors * Division * Battlements above for storage * Extension - this one into one seat only |
This picture shows:- * hand holes in the doors * latches * arrangement for double doors with 8" section between strengthening to doors * escape panels (note white emergency release springs) The extension can be unclipped and folded flat when not in use or the division between front and back and/or the division can be removed to convert into one big dog-pod. The whole dog-pod folds flat for delivery or storage - no tools needed. Whatever you do with it - it won't rattle. |
Movable division - By unclipping five coloured spirals, the division can be removed or re-positioned. £25 extra.
Two doors - These will be side hinged from an 8" wide firm panel in the centre (or as specified by you), to close against the side walls of the dog-pod.
The division would not be able to be repositioned but can be removed.
The design of the folding system enables you to undo the 8" panel and lift it (together with the doors) should you need to get a large item into the cage.
Unless advised the fixing point for the division would be in the centre of the cage.
Please specify this requirement on the order form under "Any Special Instructions" £50 extra.
Pop holes - To allow small dogs to be released one at a time, small side opening doors are cut into the man door either side of the movable division. We need you to specify the size. This avoids the expense of having two separate doors. In this event, the hand holes would not be made in the door as normal. Please specify this requirement on the order form under "Any Special Instructions" £15 each extra.
Extension - The dog-pod can be made to extend into the rear seating area when the seats are folded down.
The distance from the "Reference line" which is in line with the top of the seatback to the full extended length is required.
The change from normal to extended or vice versa, takes about five minutes to alter.
An escape panel will be included - normally to give access through the rear passenger near side door where suitable £80 extra.
If to be used as a separate kennel, with the original seatback panel in place, a proper side door will be needed (£25 extra).
If required indicate under "Any Special Instructions"
Large Dog-Pod - If the height (C) or the floor length (D) is more than 36 inches indicate under "Any Special Instructions" £25 extra for each dimension.
Battlements - i.e. extra storage space above the dog-pod - (see in photo of Nissan above) - £25 extra
Open Topped Dog-Pod - For tall dogs where the
tailgate of the vehicle is low yet there is headroom inside the vehicle, a cage
with an open top can be made. You get a loose lid which clips on when needed.
If required indicate under "Any Special Instructions" £25 extra.
Two cages for the price of one - A particular feature of the Dog-Pod is that one cage can be designed to fit two or more different vehicles, provided that neither vehicle needs a hatchback design, where rear lights obscure entry. Work out the sizes of all of the dimensions to fit the two cars separately, then using the A, B, C, .... figures, choose the lowest number in A, B, C, D, E, F, and G and the highest number of H. The resulting cage will fit both vehicles. Neither will be a perfect fit but it can be used in either vehicle providing the maximum space satisfactorily
All our dog-pods are foldable for shipping, completely "Rattle Free" and washable.
Additional Items Available:
Terrier Shelf. This allows a terrier or small dog to ride higher up in the cage allowing more floor space for his larger friends. This would normally be a 12 inch wide shelf in the same mesh as the cage from the front of the cage to the back positioned on the off side of the cage at about 18 inches from the floor with a 2 inch high edge to the back and side to prevent falling off . It can be fitted or removed as required from time to time. A piece of carpet would be required for comfort. Other sizes or shapes can be specified by the owner. Cost £25.00
Non-Spill drinking bowl. Strapped to the side of the dog-pod at floor level, this can rise above the bedding level yet remain firmly held. Cost £5.
Ramp for old dog. A ramp can be provided of a limited length to fit between the rear door and the door of the vehicle. This takes up virtually no space within the vehicle, but is limited to the 'F' dimension. Should this not appear to be long enough to avoid a steep slope, a box or similar item can be used below it to raise the base. This is lightweight, made of wire and covered with carpet, yet amazingly strong. Cost £40.
